PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically generate a conversion rule that can be defined between two given document types. SOLUTION: A converting document type access means 4 takes a necessary element type or its contents model out of a document type holding means 2. A converted document type access means 5 takes a necessary element type or its contents model out of a converted document type holding means 3. An expansion rule holding means 6 holds an expansion rule describing an expanding method to the structure pattern corresponding condition. An expansion rule processing means 7 generates the structure pattern corresponding condition from the element types or their contents models of both converting and converted document types respectively. Then the means 7 takes the expansion rule that is coincident with the generated structure pattern corresponding condition out of the means 6, sets the expansion processing and the genuineness value based on the expansion rule and generates a conversion rule candidate based on the genuineness value.
