PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for designing a bolt diameter having a minimum strength without relying on a conventional design.;SOLUTION: The strength safety factor Sfa of a bolt 5 is calculated based on a load FX which is the axial limit strength of the bolt 5 in a connecting rod 1 and the maximum load FB of the bolt subjected to a piston inertia force (Sfa=FX/FB). An abutting face opening safety factor Sfb is calculated based on the load FB of the bolt 5 at an abutting face opening limit which is a load at a limit point where a connecting rod body 3 is not separated from a cap 4 and a tensile load (FB-FC) by the piston inertia (Sfb=FE/(FB-FC)). Then, the connecting rod is designed so that the abutting face opening safety factor Sfb is equal to or more than the strength safety factor Sfa of the bolt 5 (Sfb≥Sfa).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
