PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To highly precisely detect a position of a main sublect. ;SOLUTION: This detector is provided with a range finding means for conducting range finding as to plural areas of a photographing screen 30 to output image finding information thereof, a photometric means for conducting photometry as to the plural areas of the screen 30 to output brightness information thereof, a candidate area extracting means for extracting a candidate area S having the possibility of existence of a main subject T on the screen 30 based on the brightness information, and a main sublect detecting means for specifying a main subject position where the main subject T exists on the screen 30, based on the candidate area S and the range finding information.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
