PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a passenger conveyor with a plurality of drive sources for always properly maintaining the tension of a step chain, while reducing the required space by devising the installed positions of travel drive sources.;SOLUTION: The conveyor includes an upper sprocket 1, a lower sprocket 2, a plurality of drive sprockets 3a and 3b provided in an intermediate portion, an endless step chain 4 wound between the upper sprocket 1 and the lower sprocket 2 and disposed so that only its step surface 6 side meshes with the drive sprockets 3a and 3b, a plurality of steps 8 connected to the step chain 4 and driven for circulation, the plurality of travel drive sources 5a and 5b adapted for driving the drive sprockets 3a and 3b and installed in an area surrounded by the step chain, and a control device 11 for controlling the travel drive sources so that the driving force of the travel drive source 5b located in an upper position is greater than that of the travel drive source 5a.
