PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface covered cemented carbide-made cutting tool with an abrasion resistant covered layer having excellent adhesion and chipping resistance.;SOLUTION: This surface covered cemented carbide-made cutting tool is constituted by performing a physical vapor deposition of an abrasion resistant covering layer composed of (a) a base tenacious layer comprising a titanium nitride and having an average layer thickness of 0.1-5 μm and (b) a hard surface layer comprising a single layer of either one of composite nitride layer of Ti and Al and composite carbonitride layer of them, or a double layer of both of them which satisfy the formulae (Ti1-XAlX)N and (Ti1-XAlX)C1-YNY (wherein, X shows 0.15-0.65 and Y is 0.5-0.99 in an atomic ratio) and having an average layer thickness of 0.5-15 μm, on the surface of tungsten carbide-based cemented carbide base body composed by forming an amorphous layer over the average depth within a range of 1-50 nm from the surface thereof by an arc ion plating surface treatment.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
