PURPOSE: To make the capacity of an optical communication system large without being influenced by crosstalk by four light wave mixing FWM by arranging optical signals with a specific efficient channel interval. ;CONSTITUTION: Signals from respective channels are multiplexed with high density as signal lights whose frequencies are mutually different in a transmission circuit 1, transmitted through an optical fiber 2, separated in a distributor 3 and detected as the signal lights of the corresponding frequencies by reception circuits 4 corresponding to the respective channels. At the time, so as to suppress the crosstalk amount of the respective channels, the dispersion values of the respective channels are calculated, an optimum distance from a zero dispersion wavelength 0 is obtained and a guard band 5 is set. Thus, by arranging the signal lights of the respective channels from the 0 of the optical fiber 2 through the guard band 5, the influence of the FWM is suppressed, the influence from the other channels by the crosstalk is suppressed, a band is efficiently utilized and the capacity of the optical communication system is made large.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
