PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a caliper simply and easily hold a friction pad without requiring a special leased part in the case of concave-convexly fitting the friction pad and the caliper. ;SOLUTION: A holding mechanism for a disc brake friction pad is composed by concave-convexly fitting the back metal 40 of a friction pad and a caliper claw 24. In this case, a shim 42 is insertedly set between the caliper claw 24 and an outer pad 26, and the shim 42 is provided with a tongue piece on the edge of a through hole of a fitting projection, and the tongue piece is bent to form a spring piece 46, which is inserted into a gap formed in an irregular fitted part to make the caliper claw 24 elastically hold the outer pad 26.
