PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crosslinked polytetrafluoroethylene resin in an ultrafine powder form having a low crystallinity and a novel process for preparing this resin. ;SOLUTION: A crosslinked polytetrafluoroethylene resin in an ultrafine powder form is crosslinked by irradiating an ionizing radiation, shows a crystal melting point of lower than 327°C and a crystallization heat quantity of lower than 45 J/g. This resin is prepared through a process containing the following steps. (a) A mixture solution of a tetrafluoroethylene monomer and acetone is irradiated by an ionizing radiation to polymerize the monomer and convert the solution into an acetone solvent dispersed system of polytetrafluoroethylene in a gel state, (b) the dispersed system is irradiated by an ionizing radiation to crosslink polytetrafluoroethylene, and (c) a fine powder of polytetrafluoroethylene is separated from the dispersed system and dried.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
