PURPOSE: To provide a novel technology (device and method) which compensates the non-linear frequency chirp of a laser subjected to high-speed tuning. ;CONSTITUTION: This method for controlling and compensating frequency chirps is an optical means including at least one Bragg grating 11 which is disposed within the optical route of a wavelength tunable laser 10 and is so set to compensate at least a first-order frequency chirp. This method is for such control and compensation. The frequency chirp is compensated by the Bragg grating 11, thereby, wide band-ultra-short pulse trains are formable from the wavelength tunable laser 10.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
