PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an associative memory for enhancing an efficiency of a layout and reducing a bit line load by using column multiplexing. ;SOLUTION: Pairs of cells perpendicularly adjacent in a prior art are reconstituted as a pair of horizontally adjacent cells by multiplexing columns 2:1. Thus, since the number of rows is reduced to 1/2, a bit line load is also reduced. Further, column support circuits are laid out in a pitch of two columns by sharing a retrieving data line in cell arrays. Further, a column decoder is used to reduce the number of sense amplifiers to a half, thereby reducing a layout size of the circuit.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
