PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To estimate the shape of an auditory filter in a short period of time.;SOLUTION: This method estimates the shape of the auditory filter by finding a coefficient p of roex (p, r) filter formed by modeling the shape of the auditory filter. This method determines a limit masking level NX based on a signal sound S formed by adding an appropriate value x to the minimum audio threshold T of a subject in a frequency f, generates a signal sound S' formed by subtracting an appropriate value a from the signal sound S, and generates a masker M with notch width of g and the level of NX including the frequency f in the notch. Then, this method presents an examination sound formed by superposing the masker M to the signal sound S', measures the minimum notch width gX-a of the subject while changing the notch width g, estimates the upper limit value gmax of the notch width g suited to the subject from the minimum notch width gX-a, calculates the coefficient p from the upper limit value gmax, the minimum notch width gX-a, and the value x and the value a equivalent to a coefficient r, and estimates the shape of the auditory filter by the calculated coefficient p and the value x equivalent to the coefficient r.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
