Carbonyl, thiocarbonyl or imine containing compounds as asphaltene dispersants in crude oil

A method for dispersing asphaltenes in a petroleum product by adding to the petroleum product 0.001% to 20% of at least one compound having formula (V); wherein R¹⁴ is C₁₅–C₂₁ alkyl. In addition to dispersing asphaltenes, the method of the present invention typically also increases demulsibility, reduces viscosity, reduces sediment formation, reduces surface fouling and reduces corrosion.
