"PROCESS FOR PREPARING ELECTROCATALIZERS THROUGH CHEMICAL CITRIC ACID REDUCTION FOR APPLICATION IN FUEL CELLS WITH A PROTON EXCHANGE MEMBRANE". The present invention relates to a process for preparing high surface area carbon dispersed metal nanoparticle electrocatalysts obtained by reduction by citric acid. In this method citric acid acts as a reducing agent for metal salts. Electrocatalysts can be prepared from salts of Pt, Ru, Pd, Rh, Mn, Fe, Co, Os, Ir, Mo, Cr, V, W, Sn, U and rare earths or a combination thereof. The electrocatalysts thus obtained can be applied as anode in hydrogen oxidation, hydrogen / CO mixtures and alcohols directly as fuels, and also as cathode in oxygen or air reduction in fuel cell with proton exchange membrane.
