The present invention is directed to a homogeneous, thermo-reversible gel film comprising a film-forming amount of a water-soluble thermo-reversible alginate and optionally at least one of a plasticizer, a second film-forming agent, a bulking agent and a controlling agent. pH; and processes for their preparation. The present invention is also directed to the soft capsules and solid forms containing the gel film as well as the processes for their preparation.
