The apparatus is for investigation of visual function and comprises a personal computer, a visual display unit, a mouse, a system comprising a lens magazine with lenses and possibly a keyboard. On the visual display unit programs can be shown, which an ophthalmologist can rapidly start with a given investigation. The mouse can be used by a person to be investigated to control an object on the display unit towards a fixation area. The lens magazine is fixed, possibly adjustably, to a baseplate with the aid of side pieces. Its fixation is on a cross bar, which can rotate with the magazine. In the side pieces electronic equipment can be fitted and can also be connected to like equipment in the baseplate. One or two observation apertures are provided on the cross bar in company with a light meter, so that partly the ambient light, but also the color distribution on the data screen, can be measured and calibrated in connection with a given investigation program.
