The invention relates to the protection of manholes from solid waste and undesirable malodors. This is achievable by a swinging drain plate (fig.1) opened and closed via a stainless spring 7 retractable by 5 kg weight. The waste collecting container12 (fig. 2) located into the manhole 8 collects, with the assistance of the cleanable sieve 11 and the draining openings 15, all solid objects falling into the manhole so that water is freely flowing into the channel.
