An environmental safe method and composition for the control of root knot nematodes are disclosed. Throughout the world, root knot nematode causes an average annual yield loss about 5%. The nematicidal effect of G.foumffortil was investigated on several populations of the two common species of root knot nematodes knon in Jordan; Meloldogyne Javanlca Meloidogyne Incognlta. Results showed that significant second stage Juveniles modality occurred after one day of exposure to the plant extract (80-99% mortalIty) and increased as we prolong the exposure time up to one week (94-100%). Hatching from eggs within the eggmass was inhibited when these egmasses were exposed to the plant extract. Our results showed that the effect of G. toumlfortli is static for hatching. The same static results were observed when the chemical nematicide Vyadate ® was used. Such findings regarding the use of environmentally friendly formulations based on edible, non-toxic, non costly plant would open a new era in nematode control. The use of such plant alone or in combination with other environmentally-safe control measures hopefully will minimize the use of hazardous chemicals which eventually will reflect positively on human health, our environment and moreover to export a produce that meets global standards.
