The system (1) comprises at least one cover unit (2, 3) with an open frame (4, 5) of elongated frame sections and a fabric (6, 7) supported by the frame, a support construction (8) for the bottom ends of the cover unit, a hinge mechanism (11) between the cover unit and support construction and a driver for moving the cover unit about its hinges. The hinge mechanism allows the cover unit to pivot about a horizontal axis between a resting position in which it can be assembled, dismantled, repaired, inspected or modified and a working position in which it provides cover. The driver comprises at least one hydraulic cylinder operated by an electric or hand pump.
