Installation for heating tapwater comprises a storage tank (10), a low-power heating unit (12), a boiler (14), a common feed pipe (11) for supplying water from the tank to the heating unit and boiler, a first return pipe (26) for recirculating water from the heating unit to the bottom of the tank, and a second return pipe (14a) for recirculating water from the boiler to the top of the tank. An independent claim is also included for heating tapwater by storing water in a tank, supplying water from the tank to a low-power heating unit and a boiler through a common feed pipe, heating water drawn from the tank at a first level (L1) in the heating unit, heating water drawn from the tank in the boiler, and returning the water heated in the boiler to the tank at a second level (L2), where L2 is higher than L1.
