Determination of pregnancy status in an ungulate animal

Described is a method for determining the pregnancy status in an ungulate animal that comprises determining the level of expression of a pregnancy-induced protein, Type 1 Interferon-induced protein in a body fluid that is collected from the animal during the period of early pregnancy that followed from breeding the animal. The Type 1 Interferon-induced protein expression is also compared to that of non-pregnant animals of the same species. Also described are kits that can be used to determine the pregnancy status of an ungulate animal that comprise containers to hold a test sample, reagents and instructions.
