Disclosed is a process for preparing compounds of formula (III), comprising reacting a compound of formula (I), wherein Z1 is halogen, with a compound of formula (II), wherein each R1 is independently H or alkyl, and R2 is alkyl and Z2 is halogen, in an aprotic polar solvent catalysed by a phase transfer catalyst. Also disclosed is a compound of formula (IV), and a process for producing a compound of formula (V).
