A method of suppressing the deterioration of the quality of an agricultural product comprises contact treating the agricultural product under reduced pressure with a cyclopropene compound of formula (I) wherein R is H or optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkyl, phenyl or naphthyl
