Hamster and murine cells incorporating anti-apoptosis gene of the BCL-2 family having improved cell survival properties and methods to generate such cells

Described are hamster and murine myeloma host cells, modified by introducing nucleic acid sequences that encode for an anti-apoptosis gene, a selectable amplifiable marker and at least one gene of interest. Preferably the anti-apoptosis gene is from the Bcl-2 superfamily. Also described are, methods of generating host cells showing enhanced expression levels of an anti-apoptosis genes, and host cells comprising at least 5 copies of a heterologous anti-apoptosis gene.
