Several radiation conductors (6,6',7a,7a') are fixed to the translatory elements of a translatory distributor and the rotary elements of a rotary distributor. A non-mechanical operating-mode selector optically directs diagnostic or therapeutic radiation to the treatment site through the radiation conductor. The non-ionized electromagnetic radiation is irradiated from the sources (9a) for diagnostic operation. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) method for interactive interstitial photodynamic tumor therapy and tumor diagnosis; and (2) use of mechanical switches for distribution of radiation.
