A method of diagnosing a neurodegenerative illness comprises providing a sample (e.g. blood, plasma, serum, cerebrospinal liquid, lymph tissue, nerve tissue, preferably brain tissue, especially cerebellum and front- cortex and tissue from a peripheral organ such as liver, heart or kidneys) from an individual , measuring amount of alpha -endosulfine in the sample and comparing the measurement amount with a reference amount. An independent claim is also included for a kit for detecting alpha -endosulfine.
