A solid formulation for implantation, comprising one of the particle combinations, which is selected from the group consisting of (a), (b), and (c), as well as a vehicle comprising a hydrophobic polymer, where the combination of particles are dispersed in the vehicle: (a) a combination of particles comprising particles comprising an active ingredient, particles comprising carbonate, and particles comprising a substance that reacts with carbonate in an aqueous solution to generate carbon dioxide; (b) a combination of particles comprising particles comprising an active ingredient and a carbonate, and particles comprising a substance that reacts with the carbonate in an aqueous solution to generate carbon dioxide; and (c) a combination of particles comprising particles comprising carbonate and particles comprising an active ingredient and a substance that reacts with carbonate in an aqueous solution to generate carbon dioxide.
