Procedure for maintaining IP address negotiations in a wireless communication network that implements the IPCP protocol, which comprises: receiving, in a communication device, a message in which an IP address is requested from a terminal device that contains an address in particular, said terminal device being coupled to said communication device; the generation, in said communication device, of a message in which an IP address is requested from said communication network in response to said IP address request message; and determining the reception or not by said communication device of an assigned IP address from said communication network, characterized in that when it is determined that said communication device has not received said assigned IP address, said communication device repeatedly transmits a message with an arbitrary IP address to said terminal device so that said terminal device responds by transmitting IP address request messages that include said arbitrary IP address, and said communication device rejects said IP address from said IP address request messages until it receives said IP address assigned from said communication network.
