The high-pressure vapour-phase unsaturated triglycerides partial hydrogenation comprises mixing of the triglycerides with hydrogen and a pressurised gaseous solvent. Also claimed is apparatus implementing the process. CLAIMED APPARATUS - The apparatus has a stationary catalyst particles bed with radial flow, or is a monolithic reactor. The vegetable oils are hydrogenated over palladium in a homogeneous vapour phase. EMBODIMENT - Mixing is enhanced by recirculation of the reaction mixture, and C18:1 trans isomer contents of below 3.5 per cent by weight are attached.
