IN the present invention discloses a method for producing 2 - (methylsulfonyl) - 5 - (trifluoromethyl) 1,3,4 - thiadiazole (TDA sulfone) from 2 - (methylthio) - 5- (trifluoromethyl) - 1 3,4 - thiadiazole (TDA). TDA sulfone is produced by a catalytic oxidation of TDA in the presence of oxidizer PROPER. The catalyst used for the reaction of oxidation is a glacial acetic acid.
