The machine includes a unique chisel provided in an impact head for cleaving a block of slate with compressed air impact application. The slate is tightly held on the sides by a clamping mechanism to prevent the slate from cracking during air injection. The impact head has a supported screwed to a carrier which elevates the impact head with respect to the slate arranged on an anvil. A compressed air source supplies the compressed air for impacting the chisel against the slate.
