The invention relates to a process for the production ofgrain oriented magnetic steel sheets having a finished stripthickness in the range of 0.1 mm to 0.5 mm from slabs havinga particular alloy composition. The invention ischaracterized in that in addition to manganese and copper theslabs have an increased sulphur content and a reducedaluminium content; prior to hot rolling the slabs are heatedto a reduced temperature and maintained for a sufficientlylong period at such temperature, which is lower than thesolution temperature of the manganese sulphides and higherthan the solution temperature of the copper sulphides; theslabs are then if necessary first hot roughed and then finishrolled with a reduced final rolling temperature, to the finalthickness of the hot strip, whereafter hot strip annealing isperformed. The sheets of the present invention have improvedremagnetization losses for the same magnetic induction.
