METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR DIRECTIONALLY DRILLING A BORE AND PLACING PIPE

The present invention provides an apparatus and methodfor directional drilling and a method and apparatus forplacing pipe in a directionally drilled bore. The presentinvention provides a launch tube which is placed intounstable soil. The tube is fitted with a unique cuttingshoe which forces soil both into and out of the tube toprevent the tube from becoming obstructed. Preferably, thelaunch tube extends to bedrock or stable soil. Once thelaunch tube is placed a directional drill is moved throughthe tube and into the bedrock so that the bore may bedirectionally drilled in the bedrock. Once the bore isestablished a pipe, or a plurality of pipes, may be placedinto the tube using known techniques.
