The present invention is directed to a liposomalpreparation which is based on a composition of specificlipids which comprises at least one cationic lipopolyamineand at least one neutral lipid in a molar ratio of about0.02:1 to about 2.0:1. The liposomal compounds are alsocombined with a biologically active agent, forming liposomalcompounds. These compounds are useful in drug delivery,where specific therapeutic compounds are provided in theliposomes. The specific lipid components of the presentinvention provide a highly efficient and stable deliverysystem for nucleic acids. Consequently, one embodiment ofthe invention provide the liposomal preparations which aresuitable for use in gene therapy.
