A transdermal therapeutic system comprising the active substanceestradiol and having a layered structure of a backing layer which isimpermeable to active substances and moisture, an activesubstance-containing matrix, and, if necessary, a removable protectivelayer covering the matrix, is characterized by the fact that thematrix comprises glycerol either comprising a maximum of 1%-wt.of water or being substantially free from water.
