A flexible penetration resistant stabilizedcomposite, comprising: an interlaced yarnstructure of yarns having a tenacity of at least8 g/d, a tensile modules of at least 150 g/dand an energy to break of at least 10 j/g, theyarn structure further comprising: a pluralityof first yarn subgroups (30, 32, 44, 46, 52,54, 60, 62) having a plurality of yarns orientedin a first angular direction free of crossings,the first yarn subgroups forming a stack witha plurality of second yarn subgroups (36, 38,48, 50, 56, 58, 64, 66) having a plurality ofyarns oriented in a second angular directionfree of crossings; the yarns in each subgroupfollowing substantially parallel paths that arespaced apart in a repeating pattern to sparselycover a common predetermined area; the yarnsubgroups are alternately staked with a firstsubgroup next to a second subgroup, whereinthe yarns in the first subgroup cross the yarnsin the second subgroup. A first polymeric webmay be bound to a first surface of the stack,a second to a second surface. The yarns of thetop subgroup can be connected to the bottomsubgroup by ultrasonic welding (68, 70, 72,74).
