GRAMMATICALLY CORRECT CONTRACTION SPELLING SUGGESTIONS FOR FRENCH

A method and product are provided thatidentify properly spelled words from an input string.Separate lexical entries are identified for differentparts of an input word. Grammatical informationassociated with one of the lexical entries isexamined to determine if it satisfies a grammaticalconstraint associated with another of the lexicalentries. A properly spelled word is formed bycombining the separate lexical entries if thegrammatical information satisfies the constraint.Under some embodiments of the invention, the separatelexical entries are identified by performing a firstsearch of a lexicon using a first part of the inputstring and by performing a second search of thelexicon using a second part of the input string.
