The invention provides the uses. of Xanthoceras sorbifolia. Especially, it provides extracted from husk or fruit-stems of Xanthoceras sorbifolia, the method for preparing the same and uses thereof. The compound is named as Xanthoceraside, which structure is as follows: Formula (I). The method for extracting Xanthoceraside comprising the following steps: extracting the powder of Xanthoceras sorbifolia husk or fruit-stems with a solvent and filtrating; collecting the solvent to form a concentrated liquid, which is then passed through the macroporous resin; washing with a solvent and collecting it to form concentrate; drying to form the brown solid, which is the total saponins; resolving in water and extracting the solution by n-butanol; then drying to form the brown powder; chromatographying by silfcagel column and then washing the column with chloroform/methanol=100:35~60; collecting the eluents and refining to form the wanted compound of Xanthoceraside. The resulting compound has the applications in preparing the medicine or health food for curing encephalopathy and cancer.
