It is intended to provide a method of diagnosing cancer and a method of specifying a primary focus of cancer. Namely, a method of specifying a primary focus of cancer characterized by comprising detecting a protein having an amino acid sequence represented by any of SEQ ID NOS:2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 or a protein having an amino acid sequence derived from an amino acid sequence represented by any of SEQ ID NOS:2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 by deletion, substitution or addition of one to several amino acids and having the function of HNF4α in a biological sample with the use of an immunological procedure.
