In a process for narrowing the grain spectrum of potassium chloride (KCl) and sodium chloride (NaCl) products to make them more free-running, with addition or moist and/or dry sodium polymetaphosphate ((NaPO3)x), the salt solution from which KCl or NaCl is crystallized is adjusted to an initial (NaPO3)x concentration of 1-100 g/m3, so that the phosphate (PO4) content of the primary product is less than 1 ppm in the dry salt.
