The invention relates to a jacket ring (10) for a casting roll of a strip casting machine, said jacket ring comprising a base material (A) containing a metal. An additional layer of material (C), consisting, at least partially, of ceramic particles, is applied either directly to said base material or to a layer of material (B) which is applied thereto. Said additional layer (C) consists of at least two different ceramic materials (C1, C2) which are randomly deposited on the entire surface of the jacket ring. Said embodiment of the jacket ring (10) of the casting roll enables the resistance to wear, and thus the durability, of the casting rolls to be significantly improved. Furthermore, the surface of the casting rolls can be made smooth as the ceramic particles conferring reduced heat conductivity on the layer of material (C1, C2) take on the function of the otherwise necessary grooves formed in the surface.
