The invention relates to lift-and-carrying mechanical engineering. The inventive girder for travelling and gantry cranes comprises top and lower flat bases consisting of rectangular, in the plane view, plates and sidewalls formed by plates which are disposed at an angle with respect to each other and welded to the lower plate at an internal angle in such a way that a trapezoidal cross-section whose small base is located in the lower plate area is formed. The width of the lower plate is smaller than the width of the top plate and is greater than the length of the small base of the section in an area of the lower plate for forming a travel path for a bogie or a telpher. The thickness of the lower plate is greater than the thickness of the top plate and/or the plates forming the sidewalls at least by 1.5 times, wherein diaphragms are fixed in the cavity formed by said sidewalls.
