The invention relates to a method for controlling traffic of transport means and pedestrians, in particular to transport traffic control systems, more specifically to methods for controlling traffic of transport means, mainly motor vehicles. The inventive method for controlling traffic of transport means and pedestrians consists in intermittently giving traffic stop light signals, in immobilising said traffic for allowing pedestrians to cross a road and in resuming the traffic when traffic positive go signals are given. Said method is characterised in that the traffic stop light signals are given for 0.5-3 minutes synchronously by a plurality of traffic lights placed along a road section whose length is equal to or greater than 1000m in such away that they are visible along the entire road section in forward and opposite traffic directions, wherein transport means, running along the road in the forward and opposite directions, simultaneously smoothly brake and stop in 0.2 minutes after the traffic stop light signal is given at any place of road selected by a driver, except cross-roads with authorised cross traffic and, when the transport means are immobilised, the pedestrians cross the road along the entire length of said section until the road traffic resuming signal is given.
