ATTENUATED LIVE STRAIN OF STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS AS A VACCINE AGAINST BOVINE MASTITIS

The invention relates to the use of an attenuated live strain of Staphylococcus aureus as a vaccine against ruminant mastitis. More specifically, the invention relates to a novel live vaccine strain of S. aureus which, in addition to being attenuated, is characterized by the following more significant innovations, namely: greater proliferation rates and persistence in mammary epithelial cells. The aforementioned properties promote a prolonged immune response. Said strain has been deposited and registered in the Spanish Type Culture Collection (CECT) at the University of Valencia, Campus de Burjassot, Edificio de Investigación, 46100 Burjassot (Valencia), with reference number CECT 7061. The strategy used in the construction thereof confers complete genetic stability on the mutation. In addition, the vaccine strain lacks antibiotic resistance markers in order to fulfil the associated biological safety requirement.
