The free end (4c) of the pipette is made to oscillate by means of driving. These means include an actuator (3) fixed to a frame (2) and associated with a guide block (9) through which the body of the pipette passes. The head support block (5) is mounted to rotate freely in the frame (2) about an axis perpendicular to the plane in which the pipette (4) oscillates. The pipette (4) has a body (4b), a free end (4c) and a head (4a) fixed to a head support block (5). The guide block has a connecting block (9a) fixed to the axis (19) of the actuator block (3) and an eccentric block (9b) fixed to the connecting block through which the pipette body passes and mounted in free rotation about its axis. The axis (10) of the eccentric block is offset from the axis of the actuator block by a distance of the order of 0.1mm. The actuator block is a continuous current motor. The apparatus includes means of controlling the speed, acceleration or length of operation of the motor.
