The invention relates to a laser rangefinder tester for testing a laser rangefinder (1). The proposed tester includes a reception means (210) adapted to receive incoming laser energy (LLT) emitted from the laser rangefinder (1), and an optical delay means (260) including a number of optical waveguides (25) having a respective proximal end surface and a respective distal end surface. A ray focusing means (240) focuses an amount (LLTD) of the incoming laser energy (LLT) onto the proximal end surfaces. At least a portion of an amount of laser energy (LLTD) that has propagated from the proximal end surface to the distal end surface (270) of a waveguide (25) is reflected at the distal end surface (270), and propagates back to the proximal end surface, so that this energy represents a component in a delayed laser energy (LLR) emitted from the tester for detection by the laser rangefinder (1).
