The present invention relates to novel microorganisms having lubricating oil resolution, and more particularly to Yarrowia sp. Yeasts having oil resolution as well as good lubricating oil resolution. In particular, the present invention provides a strain WLH-1 of the genus Yarrowia of accession number KACC 93019 deposited on November 19, 2004 to the Korea Agricultural Microbiological Conservation Center (KACC). The present invention also relates to a method for purifying a contaminated area such as soil or groundwater contaminated with lubricating oil and oil using the microorganism of the genus Yroea of the present invention. Thus, using the yeast genus Yroia of the present invention exhibits not only the decomposition of lubricants but also the decomposition of oils as well as improved lubricating oil resolution when co-existing with other oils, so that it is generally possible to biologically clean the contaminated areas where many simultaneous contaminants of lubricants and other oils are contaminated.
