Compositions for inhibiting oversecretion of sebum and alleviating acne comprising the extract of Chelidonium majus as an active ingredient are provided to inhibit 5alpha-reductase activity and production of dihydrotestosterone, and reduce side effects including skin irritation and antibiotic-resistance induction. The cosmetic composition for inhibiting oversecretion of sebum and alleviating acne comprises the extract of Chelidonium majus as an active ingredient, wherein the Chelidonium majus extract is prepared with a solvent selected from water, C1-4 anhydrous or hydrous lower alcohol, acetone, ethylacetate, butylacetate and 1,3-butylene glycol; the amount of Chelidonium majus extract is 0.00001-20 wt.% based on the total weight of the composition; and the composition is formulated as solution, suspension, emulsion, paste, gel, cream, lotion, powder, soap, surfactant-containing cleansing, oil, powder foundation, emulsion foundation, wax foundation or spray.
