Provided are a method for modifying the some part of the surface of a polymer substrate more simply, a method for forming a plated film on the surface of a polymer substrate, a method for preparing a polymer member, a polymer substrate surface-modified with the method, and a coating member installed on the polymer substrate. The modification method comprises the steps of adding a penetrating material on the surface of a polymer substrate; and contacting a supercritical fluid with the surface of the polymer substrate where the penetrating material is added, thereby allowing the penetrating material to penetrate into the polymer substrate. Preferably the supercritical fluid is carbon dioxide of supercritical state; and the penetrating material is an organic material such as a dye, polyethylene glycol or a metal complex.
