METHOD FOR CARRYING OUT UNCOMMON MIME TYPE IN MOBILE COMMUNICATION TERMINAL

PURPOSE: A method for supporting a nonstandard MIME(Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension) type in a mobile terminal is provided to allow a user to receive new services or contents without the necessity of upgrading software of a mobile terminal. CONSTITUTION: Contents desired to be stored in a mobile terminal is browsed(S110). A browser detects MIME type information from a header field of URL(Uniform Resource Locator) data of a received descriptor file and determines whether the MIME type is a standard MIME type(S120). If the MIME type is a nonstandard MIME type, the browser searches and determines whether a handler for processing the MIME type exists(S140). If there is no handler, the browser receives a handler descriptor file URL, and a jam receives the handler descriptor file URL from the browser and is connected with a handler descriptor file server to download the handler descriptor file(S160). The jam asks a user whether to download the handler(S170). The user determines whether to download the handler(S180) and admits downloading of the handler. Then, the jam is connected with the handler server to download the handler, stores the handler in a memory of the mobile terminal, and then, drives the handler(S190).
