Process for the preparation of a soil improver from lignite xylitol and its use

Production of a 'xylit' (XT)-based soil improver (I) from young tertiary soft lignite comprises: (a) removing intergrowing solid dendritic lignite (DL) from XT by comminuting XT-rich coal fractions using moderate intensity shock treatment by milling (b) separating fine comminuted DL and coarse XT pieces by classification; (c) opening up the low-carbon crude XT into fine, rod-like fibers, and (d) drying. Production of a 'xylit' (XT)-based soil improver (I) from young tertiary soft lignite comprises: (a) removing intergrowing solid dendritic lignite (DL) from XT by comminuting XT-rich coal fractions using moderate intensity shock treatment (such that the readily comminuted DL is converted into fines while the hard XT is only partially broken up and remains as large pieces) by milling at a peripheral rotor speed of 25-60 m/s; (b) separating the fine comminuted DL and coarse XT pieces by classification (optionally with recycling to stage (a)); (c) opening up the low-carbon crude XT into fine, rod-like fibers (preferably by shearing and/or chopping), and (d) carefully drying at not more than 160 deg C to a water content of 3-25 (preferably 5-15)%.
